Our Approach

Our approach is designed to get to the source of your problems (root causes) so your body can heal — the way it was designed to.

Unlike many traditional approaches, which attempt to address the symptoms, our approach is designed to uncover and address the root causes of your health concerns which leads to real and lasting results.

We realize true health care addresses the foundational driving factors of a health concern, not just the symptoms.

If we only address the symptoms, the source of your health concerns will still be present and it may only be a matter of time before you start experiencing other symptoms related to the same source.

Our goal is for you to experience true healing and freedom from your health conditions so you can live the fullest life.

What To Expect

1. Comprehensive Review

Our Functional Health intake process starts with a comprehensive patient history to understand your unique health patterns and specific needs. This is done through comprehensive patient intake forms, a very detailed history, and review of any previous lab testing.

2. Find The Source

Next, we narrow down the specific cause(s) of your health concerns through a comprehensive and priority-oriented technique called Systems Healthcare, functional blood work & advanced lab testing (when indicated), vitals, and any other exam pertinent to your case (assessment of the lungs, heart, eyes, ears, balance, and more).

3. Address The Source

Finally, once we understand your body’s specific needs, we create a treatment plan tailor-made for you. This comprehensive and strategic plan may include nutraceuticals, manual therapies, movement therapies, and specific lifestyle changes, to allow your body to heal and ensure lasting results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Functional medicine is an approach in healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of a health problem, rather than just treating symptoms.

This approach usually involves a few key characteristics: (1) taking a complete and comprehensive history (this requires more time), (2) considering complete and comprehensive lab testing (not just whatever insurance will cover), and (3) understanding that the body functions as one complete system and thus it is important to understand why your body is doing what it is doing and how to fix it.

Treatment costs vary from patient to patient based on the complexity of the issue, the number of visits, supplementation, and labs that might be necessary. Appointment pricing is $280/hour. The first visit for an adult is 2 hours ($560) and 1.5 hours ($420) for a pediatric. Follow up visits are 1 hour ($280) for adults and 45 minutes ($210) for pediatrics.

We only bill for the time needed. So, while most new patient appointments require the entire time, if we finish early, you’re only billed for the time used. Supplements and labs are additional and of course will depend on what you specifically need.  *Note – ASAP rate requires an additional fee (see below).

If you would like to discuss your symptoms and what treatment might cost for you, book a free consultation and Dr. Joel would be happy to connect with you!

We do not take insurance. We can, however, provide you with a super-bill which you can submit directly to your insurance company to be reimbursed according to your policy.

Our appointment fees are based on time. This ensures that each patient gets exactly what they need during each visit rather than being confined to only what insurance will cover.

Unfortunately, insurance companies are limited in covering the things patients really need: sufficient time & personalized care. Because of this, we have chosen to step outside of the system and only accept cash, checks, credit cards, debit cards, HSA’s, FSA’s, and Care Credit. In the end, this allows patients to get the personalized care that they need. We want to put the patient first and we understand the necessity of personalized care in order to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

We often have a wait-list for adults ranging anywhere from 2 – 3 months. With that said, we will often get calls from people that need to get in immediately due to a variety of reasons (emergency, recent terminal diagnosis, etc.).

To get in as soon as possible – you’ll want to schedule an “ASAP” visit. This essentially allows you to “skip” the wait list. There is an additional fee — the hourly rate is $420/hr. Thus, the first visit (2 hours) is $840 and follow ups (1 hour) are $420. The ASAP rate will continue until you reach the day at which you otherwise would have scheduled your new patient visit. For example, if you skipped 6 weeks of the waitlist by scheduling an ASAP visit, you would remain at the ASAP hourly rate for 6 weeks and then you would return to the normal rate after 6 weeks. If you have questions, please call the office and Rachel will gladly help you (214-717-2728).

Most patients will have their first visit, then a follow up visit every 2-3 weeks for the first ~2 follow up visits. We then begin to space them out to ~every 4 weeks, 6 weeks, etc. until you no longer need to come in. Our goal is for you to get better as quickly as possible so you no longer need to come in! For some patients that means 2-3 visits, for others that means 5-6 (depending on complexity), etc.

Yes. We hear this every week from new patients. One of the main issues with health care today is the extreme focus on symptoms and diagnosing. At Freedom Health & Wellness, we aren’t interested in just your symptoms or just giving you a label (diagnosis). While we want to relieve your symptoms and diagnose your condition, we are much more interested in understanding why your body is doing what it is doing and what your body needs to address the root issues, begin reversing disease, and function optimally.

No – it is not required. While we have access to some amazing functional testing (blood, stool, urine, saliva, etc.), with our approach, expensive testing is often unneeded in order to discover and address the root issues in each patient’s health case. During each patient’s first visit, we discuss (1) lab testing options for your specific case, and (2) if the doctor even thinks lab testing is needed — or just optional.

Yes — we take Health Saving’s Accounts (HSAs) and Flex-Spending Accounts (FSAs).

Yes — we see many pediatrics patients: from newborns, to toddlers, to pre-teens. Many of which struggle with pain, immune system issues, behavioral issues, digestive issues, sleep issues, and much more. For scheduling purposes, pediatrics are considered 13 years old and younger.

Great question! For scheduling purposes, we consider “pediatric” to be 13 years old and younger and people age 14+ to be considered “Adults.”

We consider patients 14-18 years old to fall into the “Adult” category primarily for scheduling purposes as people age 14-18 years old tend to be more complex and thus need more time.

We understand!
